SLJ Week 1 Day 1 Activity 2

This is our second activity on the SLJ. This time we have to describe our hometown and say what is special about it.

Firstly I live in Auckland. This place is kinda weird because in NZ, Wellington is the capital city but most people live in Auckland. I don't really know what to write in this blog post so Blog Ya Later!

SLJ Week 1 Day 1 Activity 1

Today is the first day of the Summer Learning Journey. Our first activity is to find our top three facts about NZ from the Tourism NZ website. Here are my top three facts about NZ:
1. 30% of NZ is forest.

2. The Auckland City Sky Tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 328 meters high.

3. When in New Zealand, you must drive on the left side of the road.

Another fact is that NZ is one of the first countries to see the sun along with Gisborne. Blog Ya Later!

Ako Hiko Film Festival

Kia Ora guys, last term we had a film festival. We had to make a film about something that changes into something. I was with Toby, Bruno and Alex. We talked about how to make a good movie including our shots and angles. The shot we used most was probably the medium shot.

The Medium Shot
Wide Shot

Over the shoulder
Close Up
Then we wrote a script and made a small knock knock joke movie as a warm up.

Then we made a Storyboard which is a series of pictures that explains how the movie will go. Then we started making the movie. Here is our movie:

I was really proud of when we timed the door handle being opened with when the door actually opened. I hope we can do this more often in small groups but have more time to make it. Blog Ya Later!

Tri Star Gymnastics

Last week Wednesday and this week Monday, we went to Tri Star to do gymnastics. It was a tiring walk down mostly because it was sunny. At Tri Star we did a rotation with Room 6. First we split into 2 groups. My group went and bounced on a long giant trampoline:

Then we did a balancing activity:

And we also did a flip on a bar:

Once we were finished with our activities we were on our way back to school. We did go down to gymnastics again this Monday. We did basically the same thing but we were split into 4 groups and we got to jump into the foam pit this time. I really liked doing gymnastics and I would like to do it more but that was the last session at Tri Star. Blog Ya Later!

Waikowhai Intermediate

I have spent nearly 4 years at Waikowhai Primary now I'm moving on to Intermediate next year. I'm looking forward to start doing new things but I'm also quite scared that I have to be at school by 8:30. I've had a lot of highlights throughout our school years but my favourite one was probably camp. Here are some photos of camp we did last year.

I also enjoyed going to Tiritiri Matangi. Here are some pictures of Tiritiri:

And I also can't wait to go to Rangitoto. Then we are doing our Y6 speech. I already have mine planned so I don't have to embarrass myself on the stage.

Summer Learning Journey

Hi Bloggers, This summer we are doing the Summer Learning Journey.

For this blog post we had to choose a country that we would like to visit and I chose United Arab Emirates because a city inside United Arab Emirates is Dubai and I love how there are a lot of water parks. Some interesting facts about UAE is that they have the most unbalanced men to women ratio. For every 219 men there are 100 women. There are approximately 200 nationalities in UAE. The week also starts on Sunday and they go to school and work on a Sunday. Also they get Friday off. Bicycles

Today we did some bicycle training. I actually didn't know how to ride a bike before this. The first thing we did was we learnt how to be safe on bikes. We learnt what clothes to wear. For example if you wear a skirt you have to tuck it under and sit on it so it doesn't get caught on the wheel. If you have a bag on you can buy a bag cover to put reflectors on your bag so cars can see you.

Then the next day we started using bikes. Here is a photo of me starting to learn how to ride a bike.

This was very fun but the weather was kind of bad while we were riding. Sometimes it was very sunny and the next minute it was raining. I learnt how to ride a bike that day, I didn't think it would be that easy! Athletics Day 2018

On the 2nd of November we had an Athletics Day. There were many fun activities to do. There were also House Relays at the end which I got to compete in. At our school there are different houses which are Tui, Kea, Ruru and Pukeko. The fastest people out of different age groups got to run the house relay.
Shotput
Watching Sprints
Long Jump
High Jump
House Relays
There was a lot of cheering and shouting on the day. Also we got points on her our age group behaved and whoever is the best gets a free iceblock.

Production Rehearsals

We have been doing rehearsals for the past 11 weeks. Last term the roles were told to us. The name of the production is Pasifika Peter Pan. It's kind of like Peter Pan but with a pacific twist. For example, the Lost Boys in this production are the Lost Tamariki. Rehearsals start at 3:15 and last to 4:15. Something that entertains me while I'm waiting for my turn to get on stage is spotting logical mistakes. I'm feeling pretty confident to get on stage and perform my act with my other fellow pirates.
Arrrghh!

Literacy Tumble 2

We did Literacy Tumble 1, 5 weeks ago. Now we have done Literacy Tumble 2. It basically is the same thing but it has different activities each week. Sometimes there are more must-dos and sometimes there are more should-dos. Every week is different. This is my slideshow:

This week my favourite activity was the words instead of said. It was hard and challenging trying to think of more words for the activity.

Literacy Tumble 1

Hi Everyone!
3 weeks ago we did something called the literacy tumble. Basically there are 4 must-do's, 4 should-do's and 3 could-do's. We have to finish all the Musts by the end of the week. Also sometimes our groups have sessions like writing and reading. Then we can use the reading and writing and do an activity which is most of the time a must-do. Here is my literacy slideshow:

This activity is fun as we can learn and do fun activities. One hard thing I found to do is try and complete all the should-dos and could-dos.

Matariki Art

Hey guys, today we are making Maori patterns for Matariki. We are doing 3 activities and this is only one of them. The first activity was called ponamu taonga. I copied off of the triple twist. Here are the pictures of my work:

The Start
Too Thin
Finished Product
We used clay, butter knife and a toothpick. Once I did make a good triple twist but it was too thin so I had to scrap it. Now I made it thicker so it wouldn't break once I hit it against something. This was really fun and I hope I can do this more. Blog Ya Later!

Art Show

Hola! Our art show was on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Week 9 last term and took place in our school hall. Hauraki made paintings of a bird. Here is my painting of the bird. I made a tui, as you probably know from my last blog post. Here is a finished product of my bird:

I also did some train art. Basically this piece of art will go in a new train station that is predicted to be finished in 5 years time. This is my train art;

Here is an explanation of what will happen.

My art and everyone else's train art is going inside the train station as a wall tile. Hope you enjoyed the my art, Blog Ya Later! 😃✌️👋

Interland

Hi Bloggers, a few days ago we played Interland. Interland teaches people to be internet safe. Just read the slideshow. Hope you enjoy!

I learnt that you shouldn't trust anything on the internet especially scams and emails. If you wanna check out Interland for yourself here is the link: https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en/interland

Technology Rotation

Hi guys, about 4 weeks ago we started doing the technology rotation. There were 3 different rotations in this activity. Geoboards, BP Challenge and the Papertronics. First we did geo boards. We had to cut off a 12 cm wood block for a long plank of wood. Then we marked a dot 2 cm apart the last dot. We filled up our wood with 25 dots. We got nails and hammered in all 25 nails. After that we started adding rubber bands on the geoboard. I made some weird shape and then wrote Hi

This was a fun activity but there is more activities.

Then we did the BP Challenge.
In this one we basically had to make a bridge or something that would hang a marble off the table but it has to be above table height. Here are some pictures:

This one was by far the best of all!
The last one is the papertronics. We had to make a circuit with tinfoil and paperclips. We had a LED light and a battery and we had to make the circuit longer by using the tinfoil or the paperclips. Unfortunately I didn't even get a circuit. I learnt in the geoboards how to use tools and in the BP Challenge I learnt how to use different materials to out advantage.

My Painting

Hi guys, a few days ago we made paintings. We got to choose a bird native to NZ and I chose the Tui because at school I am the house captain of Tui.

\

The materials we used are: water strength cartridge paper and chromacryl paint.

Here are the steps to making one of these paintings yourself:
Step 1: Draw up a bird or anything that you would like to put in a painting
Step 2: Draw a background that can fill up the gaps of your page so it doesn't look that blank in some spots
Step 3: Start painting the background before you paint the actual bird because you want your bird in front of the background
Step 4: Once the background has dried paint a second coat by using the same colour and painting again
Step 5: Paint your bird and do a second coat once dried
Step 6: Flex your bird by adding feather lines or dots to make it stand out

I like that the sky is so smooth and it fits perfectly into the grass and hills.
I don't like that I made the sun have some kind of green aura around it.
Something that I would like to change but I can't is probably the leaves without stems. I would either get rid of the leaves or make them bigger with stems on them.
That's it for my blog post! Blog Ya Later!

Stop Motion

Hi Guys, today we made stop motion videos. We used play-dough and we had to slowly move the play-dough so it looked like a tiny movie. We also had to take a picture each time we moved it. I did about 15 minutes of work for a 12 second video. It was hard not putting your elbow, finger, arm or body in the frame. Next time I would make it longer or do different videos.

This was so fun! We did this for about 40 minutes but I did make other movies. All the others were me messing around. Hope you liked my blog post and comment what I should improve! Blog Ya Later!

Cybersmart - Improving Comments

Today we made a DLO to help us improve our blog comments. I used the blog comment that I made on Anuk's blog. All we had to do was read the text in the coloured boxes. Then we added that into our blog comment to make our comments even better! In my comment I put my name and school at the top of the comment. I added another thoughtful comment and I added my blog address if they want to check out what I am doing.

Thanks for viewing my blog and please leave a positive, thoughtful and helpful comment!

Orienteering

Bula guys, I did orienteering this term and zones were a while back. Orienteering is where you run and read a map to find stops that you can stamp a shape on a piece of paper and have it checked at the end to see if it is right. I have some pictures of the run here:

This was really fun and I feel like I should have done orienteering last year. Although it was muddy it was still fun. There was one part that was really muddy and my shoe fell off while I as walking through the deep mud.
