Hauraki's Gala Preparation

Hello, This year Waikowhai is hosting a gala on November 25th. We are fundraising for the junior playground as well as not using plastic bags as often. Each class had to make different items for the gala. There are Tote Bags, Recycled Paper, Soap and other exciting items. This was awesome because it taught me how to sew and how to make a tote bag. This could be really helpful in the future. If you wanna learn for yourself these are the steps of making a tote bag. First you wanna grab 2 pieces of fabric a bit bigger than how big you want the bag to be. Then flip them inside out for later when we flip them around again. Pin every side except for the top which you want to be exposed so you can put things in your bag. Start sewing at the top right corner and go down, across and up the other side. After that you fold the top down. You should pin it then iron it. Put one side of the bag under the sewing machine and sew all the way around until you come to the spot you started at. Fold it down again and iron that. Sew that all the way around and then you can add straps to your bag. Sew a square where the end of the handle would be. Well Done! You have made your bag! If you want to look at some of the photos we took:

Our first ones weren't as good as our 2nd and 3rd bags. We barely knew what we were doing and needed a lot of help at that stage. It hasn't changed my thinking a lot on plastic bags because I already knew that plastic bags did a lot of damage and harm to the environment. But I did not know that, that many animals eat plastic. This is very sustainable because we have used old paper to make brand new paper and made tote bags to stop using plastic bags.

Frog Whistle Mine - Reading Slideshow

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago we made a reading slideshow on the book Frog Whistle Mine. We had to write the main parts of the story in the plot or story line. We had to tell others the problems the character faced and how they solved it. The next two slides are about the main character and the minor character. We wrote about what he looks like, what his actions are and his personality traits. We also wrote our favourite moment in the book and two reasons why it is. Also we had to add a screencastify of ourselves reading that part in the story. The opinion PMI stands for Plus (Positive), Minus (Negative) and Interesting. Then we did our thinking hats which mean Information, Good, Negative, How they feel, What was creative and What should they do now? We then used tinkercad to create something in our book. Then we questioned the story with our questioning board.
This was a cool and awesome experience. It was quite hard because we had to write a lot about the story and that needs you to look through the story and find that part. I liked the book a lot because it was really mysterious.
