Summer Learning Journey Practise

Hey guys, we are doing a summer learning activity programme. This is just a practice one to get me warmed up. We get awarded points for doing this and also points for getting comments on our blog. This will be done during the summer holidays.
Fact #1: Today 4.4 million New Zealanders rule New Zealand. 64% are European, only 14.6% are Maori, 9.2% are Asian and 6.9% are Non-Maori Pacific Islanders.
Fact #2: Over three quarters of the population in New Zealand is in the North Island. Also 1/3 of the total population living in Auckland.
Fact #3: A person started jumping off illegal places for other people to think that it was safe for other people to do it as well. He invented the bungy jump.

I feel like this is going to be a very fun activity to do over the summer holidays. I am really excited for the holidays to come up so I can do this activity.

Hauraki's Gala Preparation

Hello, This year Waikowhai is hosting a gala on November 25th. We are fundraising for the junior playground as well as not using plastic bags as often. Each class had to make different items for the gala. There are Tote Bags, Recycled Paper, Soap and other exciting items. This was awesome because it taught me how to sew and how to make a tote bag. This could be really helpful in the future. If you wanna learn for yourself these are the steps of making a tote bag. First you wanna grab 2 pieces of fabric a bit bigger than how big you want the bag to be. Then flip them inside out for later when we flip them around again. Pin every side except for the top which you want to be exposed so you can put things in your bag. Start sewing at the top right corner and go down, across and up the other side. After that you fold the top down. You should pin it then iron it. Put one side of the bag under the sewing machine and sew all the way around until you come to the spot you started at. Fold it down again and iron that. Sew that all the way around and then you can add straps to your bag. Sew a square where the end of the handle would be. Well Done! You have made your bag! If you want to look at some of the photos we took:

Our first ones weren't as good as our 2nd and 3rd bags. We barely knew what we were doing and needed a lot of help at that stage. It hasn't changed my thinking a lot on plastic bags because I already knew that plastic bags did a lot of damage and harm to the environment. But I did not know that, that many animals eat plastic. This is very sustainable because we have used old paper to make brand new paper and made tote bags to stop using plastic bags.

Frog Whistle Mine - Reading Slideshow

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago we made a reading slideshow on the book Frog Whistle Mine. We had to write the main parts of the story in the plot or story line. We had to tell others the problems the character faced and how they solved it. The next two slides are about the main character and the minor character. We wrote about what he looks like, what his actions are and his personality traits. We also wrote our favourite moment in the book and two reasons why it is. Also we had to add a screencastify of ourselves reading that part in the story. The opinion PMI stands for Plus (Positive), Minus (Negative) and Interesting. Then we did our thinking hats which mean Information, Good, Negative, How they feel, What was creative and What should they do now? We then used tinkercad to create something in our book. Then we questioned the story with our questioning board.
This was a cool and awesome experience. It was quite hard because we had to write a lot about the story and that needs you to look through the story and find that part. I liked the book a lot because it was really mysterious.

NZ Journey

Hi, a week ago we did a slideshow called NZ Journey. We basically had to plan a trip having the most fun as possible while trying to stay under a budget of $500 per day. There were 11 days in this trip and we are travelling from Dunedin to Cape Reinga with car rentals, petrol, hotels and activities. We also calculated how far we drove and how long it took.
This was insanely fun but only lasted a few days. Sadly I went over budget by about $1100. This was definitely the most fun we have ever had in a math activity. If I did this again I would probably choose a Juicy Rental so I don't have to stay in the hotels for more money but I still have the option to. In slide 15 I missed out on a lot of activities because I really wanted to go to Hilton Hotel. I also missed out on the Helicopter Ride on the next slide. This is where my budget was way over.

Cross Country 2017

A few days ago we did cross country in our school. We did a 2K run around our school. While others were running we played games and group games in places that they were not running. When it got to our turn my heart was beating! It was very tiring when I finished and when I did, I didn't come anywhere close to the top 5. Most of our parents came and watched us run. I will show you some pictures of us running.

Inquiry

For the last week we were doing our Inquiry about mountains. We could do anything to present our work. I decided to present it using an animation. Others did it by painting, drawing, paper mache and building. If you want to watch my animation it is down below; also you need to hold down right or down button to make it look better.

I really enjoyed this because we were learning and also playing around with animation. In it you can see the little characters moving. It is made with a lot of google slides in one presentation. Please comment on my work!

Magical World of Crazy Science - Richard and Robyn

Today we went to the hall and we had a look at some cool science. We learnt a lot of things when we were there. Also there were a lot of amazing things like when they showed us how a baby nappy works. In the baby nappy there is something called "Polymer," that turns liquid into a solid. So he got a cup of water with yellow food colouring to make it look like pee, and poured it into a cup of Polymer and then he tried to pour it onto his head but it became solid. This show was mostly about chemicals. Also there was a really cool one that he turned on a blow dryer and he put a ping-pong ball on top and it floated! When he moved it, the ball followed the blow dryer! He taught us that the thinnest object in the world that can be seen with the naked eye is a bubble! He made a lot of tiny bubbles and at the end he made a gigantic bubble that he could probably fit in. Once he put it around his head and it was so cool! I wonder how he tossed a firework out of his hand!

Hope You Enjoy My Photos And Videos!

Pixel Art

Ola Bloggers, We made Minecraft Characters for Maths. We also made other video game characters and also real life people like Logan Paul: Max in my class made it be sure to check out his blog: Max's Blog
Logan Paul
Steve
Steve is one of the ones that all of us did. It is an amazing idea to make this. If you're wondering how to make this, you make a Google Forms Sheet and change the size of the boxes to 30, horizontal and vertical to make a square shape. Then you just change the colours by using the fill tool. Here are the instructions:

Mt Ruapehu Camp

Hi Guys! Last week we went to a giant camp and here is a slideshow about what we did on camp. We went on the bus to different stops and finally landed at our hotel. We went skiing the next day. Just have a look at the slideshow to learn more. I was really excited before I went to camp, I nearly didn't know what to pack in my bag!
It was very challenging to go to sleep at night without being in your own bed at night. Also it was pretty scary at night. I overcame a big challenge, I was feeling really homesick at first then I was enjoying it! That was a very successful camp because we were on time and most things went to plan. Thanks for visiting my blog. This was an amazingly awesome camp! Please give advice or comment down below! Thanks!

Taekwondo

This Thursday we did Taekwondo, it was really fun and hard at the same time. Mostly it was fun, we had to run to the middle of the hall do whatever we needed to do, then we would run back and run to the end of the hall and do the same thing. We also practised our "Scissor Kick" and here are some photos of us practising. We also did a tournament for our "Scissor Kick." Unfortunately I didn't come 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
These are some pictures of my friends kicking the pad, there is also one pcture of my kicking one. I think this will be useful for soccer in the future.

Gala Creation

Ni Hao, This is all the work we had to do about the tote bags. We put down questions, websites, sequence maps and pictures about the bag we are making. We used different materials and resources to create it. We made tote bags to keep the environment clean. Other classes are also making things like Soap and Paper.

The work was hard because it cost a lot of time and skill to make a bag. It was really fun and amazing to do our work on. Please comment on my work and suggest things I could improve in.

My Structure/Tent

For maths yesterday, we got to build something. We used modelling clay and toothpicks to create a tent/some shelter. The problem was it started collapsing halfway through making it. I learnt that the more toothpicks you use, the more it collapses. It is so FRUSTRATING when the building collapses because you have to do most things again. As you can see in the photo, it started collapsing while I was taking the picture. I made only a few shapes like squares and triangles. I made the walls out of squares and the roof made of a triangle shape. Also the roof is kind of a rectangular shape. This is called a triangular prism.
Basically it means I really liked this lesson and liked the fact that it is also learning. This is based on geometry because of all the shapes and sizes you could do. I think this is very entertaining, fun and helpful. The good part was that it was very fun and really cool for a maths session.

Wonder Map

This is a piece of inquiry work we had to do, for our class we are making tote bags for the people to buy. Other classes are doing things too such as: Paper and Soap. "Think" is basically what you think you know and "Wonder" is what you wonder it is.

This work is really average because you mostly didn't have to think about most of them but when you needed to think about it, it was really hard.

My Personal Badge

This is my Personal Badge. We did this in the same lesson as the last badge I made. We made the other one for cyber smart badge, but this one you could design what ever you want.
This work was easy, because you could think of anything you like to do or do naturally. The picture of the hand stands for being together and cooperating with each other. The world means we can connect all over the world. This is important to me because I hate being lonely and I love to have many friends around me.
Please Comment! Thanks!

Bruno and my Cyber Bullying Comic

For Inquiry we did a comic about Cyber Bullying. Bruno is the Bully and I am the victim. We decided to make it on about bullying over gmail. You could use this comic in writing and inquiry also you could use it in a bit cyber smart
Hope you enjoy!
Making this comic wasn't hard because we just had to take photos of ourselves and put it on a frame and put some speech bubbles to look like we are talking. I do not support bullying at all, online or offline.

Look Who I Found!

We did this in cyber smart to find our classmates and how public we are. We looked on the web, in our school photo gallery and from our photos on our chrome book. It is important to be safe on the internet and in real life.
This work was hard because it took a lot of time to find people but it is a lot easier in the school gallery since it's all school photos.
Please Comment and Blog you Later!!!

Fastest Fingers

We did this for Cybersmart. We had to create a badge involving your Chromebook. We could do anything that is part of our Chromebooks. I love typing and keep on trying to get faster and faster.

This work wasn't hard and wasn't easy. We had typing club to help us get our fingers ready for typing. Here is a link: https://www.typingclub.com/

Pick a Path Story

Two weeks ago we started planning a Pick a Path Story. We made a wild character and  put it in our story. You can be very creative when you do Pick a Path story's. I liked to design my own story and the idea of it.
The work wasn't very hard, all you had to do was be creative.

My Thing Link

This is my Thing link about me. I made the clone and the make up with Be Funky. We were told to use Be Funky to make yourself look weird. It is really fun to do random things to your face or yourself as a person. We then did a Thing Link about ourselves to explain a little about us.

The piece of work that I have done is really easy. You have some fun changing yourself and that is what they ask for. When we found out all the things to do so we had fun. Please Comment 💬 and BLOG YOU LATER!!!

Skateboarding

Outside on the courts on Wednesday we did skateboarding. We wrote this piece of writing using our experience. A skateboard is really hard to balance on, but it is still able to ride.
Once you know how to do it, it is easy.

Skateboarding
On Wednesday we did skateboarding outside, on the courts with Martin and Aiden. Firstly we put on our gear and we made sure that we were safe before we got on a skateboard. Once we finally put on our gear including knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and also helmets.

We all went to get our skateboards. I got a orange coloured skateboard. It was really scary when we first got on a skateboard, but after a few minutes I got the hang of it. Then after it was starting to get easier. We had some fun on the skateboards until it was time to get off.

The gear was easy to take off, but hard to pack up. We took off our helmets first then our wrist guard and tied the wrist guards together. We did the same with the elbow pads and also our knee pads.

Finally we ran off to Jump Jam. That was a really fun skateboarding lesson.

The work was especially hard when you can barely remember anything from what you did at skateboarding. Otherwise the work was easy. Comments are liked and appreciated. Thanks! BLOG YOU LATER!!!

My Tooth Slideshow

The Tooth is a book about a real story written by Des Hunt. In the story there is a person named Joan Wiffen and she is the first person to find a dinosaur bone in New Zealand. Then after we read the book we did some work around the story and here it is!

This book was really fun to read, especially interesting when the some of the facts are true. Making the slideshow wasn't that hard because all you had to do is research some on dinosaur fossils and the earthquakes.
Please make a comment on my work, Thanks!

Six Thinking Hats

WALT: Use de Bono Thinking Hats to show understanding.
3 classes from Waikowhai Primary School moved into a new building named Te Waka Ako that took 2 years to plan and 1 year to build. We were trying to write down what is good, bad, creative and how we feel about the new building.
I learnt that taking your shoes off isn't that big of a matter since it just makes the room cleaner. Te Waka Ako is an ILE, innovative learning environment. Here is a link. ILE.
Thank You for reading my work. Also here are some pictures ...

I really liked this new week of learning.

My Painting

We were inspired by Fatu Feu'u to make a painting with two different cultural patterns covering the artwork. We used paint and mixed primary colours to get secondary colours. Also we mixed primary colours with secondary colour to receive tertiary colours.

The work was hard, especially the corners of the artwork but really fun to use paint in our work. I liked my painting and also the way that the colours mix!
Comments are appreciated and welcome!

Caesar the ANZAC Dog

This is a real story about Caesar the ANZAC Dog. The story was about a bulldog that saved many lives in the past while in World War 1. Caesar was shot by a sniper in the distance. His handler, Tom later was gassed by mustard gas and was severely wounded and blind. He was sent back home on a hospital ship and married a nurse named Kath Butcher.

The work wasn't that hard to do because we read the book and we had a book in front of us. The book was amazing and interesting.

My Trench Diary

This is my Trench Diary, we had to write about what it must be like in the trenches in war. It was part of our work for ANZAC Day. Hope you like it!

My Blog Audience

In Cybersmart we looked at who is on our blog and seeing our things that we post on our blog. Also while we were in cybersmart we learnt something called a Digital Footprint and things that were left behind when we don't use them.

This piece of work was quite easy because there wasn't really anything new, it was all the things we knew about already.
Feel free to leave a comment.

Welcome

Welcome to my very own blog for learning. I look forward to sharing my learning with teachers, my school, my family and friends anywhere.
